Teaching at the Local Family History Center

There are more than 3,400 Family History Centers world wide. Most of the people who assist patrons who visit the Centers are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but you don’t have to be a member to work in one. You can locate the Center nearest you by going to www.familysearch.org, clicking on Library, then on Family History Centers. There you can order films to view of vital records, land and property records, military records, census records, obituaries, and… Well, the list goes on and on. If you order a film, there is a small fee unless you visit the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am a Family History Worker at the Santa Rosa Stake Family History Center. I enjoy helping people search for their ancestors. I also teach a Family History class on Sundays at my church. Family History, or genealogy, consumes most of my time, searching for my ancestors and helping others search for theirs.

Teaching in my FHC

There are many brochures, pamphlets and resource outlines available at all Family History Centers to assist you in your research. Resource outlines are available for most major countries of the world and all states of the USA. A small fee is charged to the patron. Most FHCs also have a small library of resource books that can be read at the Center.

Important work materials

Film Readers: When a film is ordered, it can be viewed at the Family History Center on a film reader. (See picture below.)

Film Reader

If the patron wishes to make a copy of the image, it can be copied for a nominal charge with a photocopy machine. (See picture below.) Assistants are always available to help with placing the film on the film reader or making copies.
